Cultural Celebration: Easter

Each year, Americans (among many others around the world) celebrate the Easter holiday on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25. This year, Easter is on April 21.

You may notice eggs, baskets, and bunny rabbits. Some will hide plastic eggs filled with candy or coins for children to hunt. Some children will be given a basket filled with toys or chocolates (or both!). You might even see someone in a bunny rabbit costume (often at a mall or party). These are fun ways to enjoy games and treats for the Easter holiday.

For Christians, this holiday holds a special meaning beyond candy and rabbits. Easter is a celebration of Jesus’ victory over sin and death. Christians believe that Jesus was killed (which is the focus of another holiday called Good Friday) and on the third day rose to life again. This is why some call the Easter holiday Resurrection Day.

You are invited to observe or participate in these special days.
